Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that started in late 2019. Despite the recovery of over 16,600,000 people, the virus shows no signs of slowing down. To better understand how it spreads and evolves, you can check the CDC website for the latest information.
As a limousine driver, you are bound to have close contact with passengers, therefore increasing the chances of you being exposed to COVID-19.
The question is, what do clients want from you?
It’s simple: to protect their health. Making a client feel safe and ensuring safe travel is what they need.
We have gathered the general and industry-specific best practices for virus spread prevention to help you to continue growing your business even during the pandemic.
Virus Prevention Measures to Protect Yourself and Others
Follow these measures to make sure that you are doing everything possible to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Safety Measures for Limousine Drivers
- Stay home if you are sick – If you develop a fever or COVID-19 symptoms, immediately reach out to a healthcare provider for medical advice. Do not return to work unless you have met the criteria to discontinue home isolation.
- Wear a certified mask – Since you will be transporting people daily, it is important to have a certified mask, as a simple cloth mask doesn’t provide enough protection. Droplets containing the virus can penetrate through cloth masks and, for that reason, you need to wear a certified mask.
- Avoid close contact with passengers – Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet away from passengers, and advise them to do so as well. Politely ask your passengers to handle their own bags and belongings during pick-up and drop-off.
- Install a protective cover – Mount a partition between the driver and passengers for extra protection.
- Bring fresh air inside the vehicle – Always remember to have good air circulation inside the car.
- Keep it clean – Sanitize before pick-ups with a spray that contains more than 60% alcohol.
- Avoid contact with frequently touched surfaces – Even if your clients are not infected, you must always be wary because some people do not show signs of being infected yet they still are. Put on a pair of gloves and disinfect the area before touching. That includes door frames, handles, buttons, windows, seat belt buckles, etc..
Safety Measures for Passengers
- Ask your passengers to wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose
- You must check their temperature before entering the vehicle
- They must sanitize their hands before entering the vehicle
- If they are to cough or sneeze, they should use tissues and dispose of them after exiting the vehicle
- If you feel uncomfortable transporting somebody who is visibly sick, you can always cancel the transportation service
- If passengers are intentionally spreading their germs, you must immediately report them to local authorities
General Best Practices
- Avoid touching your face
- Practice proper hand hygiene
- Keep a safe distance of at least 6ft
- Do daily temperature checks
